BIO
I'm a scholar of esoteric, alternative, and heterodox religion, specifically in the African diaspora. Currently teaching at Radboud University Nijmegen, I received my PhD in Religion from Rice University in 2020. My dissertation investigated forms of Afrodiasporic visual art, literature, and poetry as parareligion. I'm currently working on a project that looks at the transatlantic circulation of occult knowledge since 1900.
In 2025-2026, I am one of the Crossroads Project Research Fellows (Princeton University).

Together with Aren Roukema, I serve as Editor for the journal Correspondences: Journal for the Study of Esotericism. I also serve on the boards of the NGG (Dutch organization for the study of religion) and ESSWE (European Society for the Study of Western Esotericism).
My research has been awarded funding by the Charlotte Newcombe Dissertation Fellowship, Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek Junior Postdoc (FWO), Radboud-Glasgow Collaboration Fund, First Book Institute, Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship (declined), and Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship (declined).
